Havana - Cemetary

During the day trip to Havana, we stopped at a very large cemetary, measuring 23 square kilometers. It is so very large that they have street signs within in order to find your way around. The cost of a funeral service and burial in Cuba is only $10. Within the cemetary, there were very ornate headstones and monuments to the dead.

There is also a special person (Amelia) buried within, called the Miracle Lady. It is said that if you make a wish at her monument and that you back away from her, while not turning around, your wish will come true. If it does, you must return to the site and place a marble plaque at the area of her monument. There have been thousands of marble plaques placed at her feet over the years and the caretakers of the cemetary must clear them away every year or so to make room for others.
